The Barbados National Trust

The Barbados National Trust was established in 1961 for the expressed purpose of preserving Barbados' built and natural heritage. Over the past six decades the Trust has been responsible for several important preservation projects such as saving and restoring the Nidhe Israel Synagogue, The Arlington House Museum in Speights Town and the Morgan Lewis Windmill in St. Andrew. The Trust also contributed significantly in the development of the successful dossier that was submitted to UNESCO for the designation of Historic Bridgetown and it's Garrison as a World Heritage Site. 
The Trust has the direct responsibility for preservation of nine (9) sites across Barbados which include: 
  • Wildey House, St. Michael - HQ of the Barbados National Trust 
  • The Nidhe Israel Synagogue, Bridgetown Barbados 
  • Tyrol Cot House and Heritage Village, St. Michael 
  • The Gun Hill Signal Station, St. George 
  • The Grenade Hall Signal Station, St. Peter
  • Cotton Tower Signal Station, St. Joseph 
  • The Welchman Hall Gully, St. Thomas 
  • The Andromeda Botanical Garden, St. Joseph
  • The Arlington House Museum, Speightstown.
  • The Trust is also affiliated with the George Washington House, St. Michael. 
The Barbados National Trust acts as one of the entities that advises the Government of the Barbados as it relates to planed developments in spaces in Barbados that are considered as important to cultural heritage. 
The Trust engages in outreach activity through its Open House Season that the displays historically important aspects of Barbados' built heritage to the public of Barbados as well as visitors to the island. Additionally the Trust promotes environmental awareness through its annual collaboration with the hike season of the hiking association of Barbados.
The Trust is volunteer driven organization made up of subcommittee that drive the work of the Barbados National Trust.  We welcome all who are interested in preservation of Barbados' built and Natural Heritage to become a member of the Trust and or volunteer with the Trust.
